Another gem from the interworldweb

This is the sort of thing which upon first reading, appears to be some sort of front for propagandist religion, then appears to be a joke, then appears to fly in the face of your naive assumption that the advancement of technology, social mores, and general common sense had made this type of thing obselete: www.rational.org.

I'm hard pressed to explain what is happening here. I don't want to rule out the possibility that it's a joke, but then again, I'm usually the one who laughs at wildly inappropriate moments in a room of pathologically humorless people, and my impulse to laugh here could just be more out of fear than anything. This, for example, could have come straight from an SNL skit:

If you are a "secret sexer," pursuing forbidden fruit against your own better judgment, you are likely in the grip of your Sex Beast®, a mindless desire for erotic pleasures. If you pursue illegal pleasures, your Sex Beast® wants you to believe that you are out of control, that there is no cure for your obsession, and that you are doomed to keep rolling the dice until the worst happens. Your Sex Beast® wants you to think there's something wrong with you...

And so on and so forth. Is it really necessary (read: legal) to register a trademark that is not only an inane mischaracterization of the human libido but which also rests on a profound misunderstanding of advances in neuroscience for the latter half of the twentieth century?

Oh, there's more where that came from:

There is nothing in your past, in your genes, in your brain, or in your personality that compels you to drink or use. Using is voluntary, purposeful behavior.

I guess more frustrating to me is the fact that we can't really do more than laugh at this or pronounce it below our reasoning powers to debunk. The existence of these websites (and the people who write them) is a waste of humanity's collective resources and
an impediment to social progress.
